On Packet Reordering in Time-Sensitive Networks

چکیده
Time-sensitive networks (IEEE TSN or IETF DetNet) may tolerate some packet reordering. Re-sequencing buffers are then used to provide in-order delivery, the parameters of which (timeout, buffer size) affect worst-case delay and jitter. There is so far no precise understanding per-flow reordering metrics nor dimensioning re-sequencing in order guarantees, as required such networks. First, we show that a previously proposed metric, late time offset (RTO), determines timeout value. If network lossless, another defined byte (RBO), buffer. losses cannot be ignored, larger than RBO, depends on jitter, an arrival curve flow at its source, timeout. Then develop calculus compute RTO for path; method uses novel relation with jitter curve, together decomposition path into non order-preserving elements. We also analyse effect delay, propagation curves. particular that, lossless (but order-preserving) network, “for free”, namely, it does not increase whereas lossy increases apply analysis evaluate performance impact placing intermediate points illustrate results two industrial test cases.

On Mitigating Packet Reordering in FiWi Networks
In an integrated fiber and wireless (FiWi) access network, multi-path routing may be applied in the wireless subnetwork to improve throughput. Due to different delays along multiple paths, packets may arrive out of order, which may cause TCP performance degradation. Although the effect of packet reordering due to multi-path routing has been well studied, remedy solutions are either to schedule ...
متن کاملThe Solutions for Packet Reordering in TCP over Wireless Networks
Packet Reordering is a phenomenon on the Internet and must be taken into account when considering performance analysis in wireless networks. Due to various characteristics specific to wireless networks, such as signal fading and mobility, packets may be lost due to congestive and noncongestive losses. The noncongestive losses violate the design principles of some traffic control mechanisms in T...
متن کاملRobustness to Packet Reordering in High-speed Networks
In this paper we investigate the impact of packet reordering on the performance of high-speed protocols. Our results show that even small fraction of packet reordering can severely impair the performance of these protocols. We then investigate the benefits of using delayed congestion response (TCP-DCR) with the high-speed protocols. Our results indicate that the benefits in terms of avoiding pe...
متن کاملPacket reordering in networks with heavy-tailed delays
An important characteristic of any TCP connection is the sequencing of packets within that connection. Out-of sequence packets indicate that the connection suffers from loss, duplication or reordering. More generally, in many distributed applications information integrity requires that data exchanges between different nodes of a system be performed in a specific order. However, due to random de...
متن کاملDelay-sensitive packet scheduling in wireless networks
We consider “opportunistic” downlink scheduling of data traffic in a wireless network. In particular, we focus on the delay performance of such schedulers. First a channeldependent scheduling algorithm is considered which maximizes throughput by always transmitting to the user with the best channel conditions. The delay distribution of this scheduling rule is analyzed and asymptotic results are...
